This show features myself Kary aka chiKa at the controls plus Barefoot Doctor,  the amazing DJ/producer legend that is Terry Hooligan, and the supreme lyrical master Chris Paradox fresh from a long water fast which provided the inspiration for the theme of cleansing.

Cleansing is for the body, mind and soul

Cleansing is a tried and tested and ancient form of detoxification. My own fasting experience was almost over 10 years ago when I lived in a warehouse the Mission district of San Francisco. It was a 10 day master cleanse undertaken unwisely without any research but which nevertheless left me feeling clean, alert and of course – hungry. Two other people in the warehouse continued for a total of 30 days and at the end of their cleanse I clearly remember their very bright sauce wide eyes, clear skin and transformed attitude to life.It works. But what about a few days/ weeks/ months later?

The real aim of a cleanse is to build awareness of yourself and nurture a deeper understanding of how you work. The effect of the food that you put into your body ultimately manifests in how healthy you act. The way we act is determined by a whole bunch of chemical reactions which are determined by amongst other things – the fuel you give your body through food. It’s not hocus pocus, it’s science.

During a fast or cleanse you get to hear your body because many of those processes that usually keep the body busy are being temporarily silenced. Instead you hear its every creak, moan and groan. You visualise yourself internally. You make friends with your body and soothe and care for it when its finding the going hard. In the end you and your body emerge knowing and appreciating each other a hell of a lot better.

But this where the work begins, not ends. Maintaining that awareness with your body and keeping it happy, and consequently keeping your mind and soul healthy too, is a lifetime’s journey. A cleanse is just the catalyst. That’s why having a practice is so important. A practice keeps you connected with your inner You.

Chris came to the show fresh from the end of a 40 day water fast. He looked lean and healthy and was smiling a lot. However, I have a feeling he is always this way….
